Pardon The Huge Non-Sports Sports Day

Today was a great day for PTI. Pardon the Interruption is the only show that comes on daily which I have my DVR set to record. It never stores more than one episode, just tapes over the old one. That's because if you watch PTI the next day, it's already old news. I usually watch it when I come home from work or after dinner.

The beauty of PTI is that it hops from one topic to the next so quickly, and doesn't require you to pay attention for too long at one time. The beauty of DVR is that I can fast forward through anything related to NHL, golf or NASCAR. Today wasn't a day to fast forward through anything. Today was a great day for PTI. So much going on. So I'm going to steal a page out of their book, and write a little bit about a handful of sports topics that came up today, none of which involved an actual sport in action. Let's roll.

CP3 to the Lakers
I heard about this via text message from Mike Fulldog Fuller. And it sunk my heart for about a minute. As a Knicks fan, I held out some unrealistic hope that my beloved Knickerbockers could land Chris Paul. Realistically, they didn't have the pieces to contend with the other 6 teams in the running. Paul to the Lakers though? Damn. Until you realize they gave up both Gasol and Odom, and that Paul was injured most of last year. So whatever. Am I downplaying it out of bitterness? Probably. But he wasn't getting traded to the Knicks if they were going to keep Carmelo and Amare. Which leads me to the next topic that I was excited about earlier in the day...

Chandler to the Knicks?
Not done just yet, but something I'm excited about. He'd be a protector for the Knicks, a rebounder and someone who doesn't need a lot of touches. I feel like I wrote this last week in a hypothetical blog about who the Knicks could get. Would I rather Paul throwing oops to Amare and pick and rolling with Carmelo? Duh. But I like Chandler at center.

(quick note... minutes after I wrote this, Trav texted me saying Stern vetoed the trade... damnit, I'm not re-writing or deleting this whole entry. My head hurts)

Battier to the Heat
This one wowed me more than the rest for some reason. I don't like it, because I do like Battier. He is a levelheaded guy and a very good role player who could bring some stability to a team that needs it. He was also one that I said I'd be happy with the Knicks getting. This one will fly under the radar with the Paul trade, but I think this is huge for the Heat. Damnit.

Pujols to the Angels
I didn't see that coming, but that's partly due to I didn't follow the Pujols rumors much at all. It surprised me. I thought either he'd stay with the Cardinals because, you know, they just won a World Series, or he'd go to the Miami (when the f did that happen) Marlins because of the Latino push they are making.

Bobby V to the Sox
I know this isn't breaking, but PTI did talk about his press conference and how he said he hates the Yankees. He has to say that, so I get it and am not angered by it. But damnit, I liked Bobby V and now I'm not allowed to. Screw you Red Sox. You know what? I hate YOU!

Big East
Also not breaking, but did they just add San Diego State? Despite the fact that conference realignment gave me a fun blog entry to write a few days ago, I hate it because it killed the Big East as we knew it. Sorry, Boise and SDSU don't belong in the Big East. Please change the name immediately, and forever retire the name Big East.

Charlie Weis to Kansas
Kansas has football? Whatever. Good for Charlie.

Oden to the Blazers
On one hand, I'm happy for Oden. On the other hand, did he just get 9 million dollars? Has he played a total of 82 games yet? I hope it works out for him and he gets healthy, but I don't see it. Poor Greg Oden. Not financially poor, just figurative poor. You get it.

Manning for MVP
Heard this on PTI... the new NFL magazine apparently had a column about how Peyton Manning is their MVP. Which doesn't make sense, but it does (I hate when people do that, and now I'm doing it). It makes sense because he has clearly proved himself incredibly valuable to his team, since they obviously miss him this year. But it's a jerk move in the faces of all the other Colts to write this. I guess they could avoid it by winning a game though.

Klosterman Tebow Column
Great piece on Grantland by smart person Chuck Klosterman about America's Tebow fascination, America's Tebow Christianity fascination, the meaning of faith, and the perplexity that is Tebow's success. Usually Klosterman's stuff is completely too intelligent for me, this was just mostly too intelligent for me. Worth reading. I'd link to it if my internet wasn't being lame right now, but if you google 'Tebow Klosterman', I'm sure it will come up.

And that's all I've got for you tonight.

As previously mentioned, my internet is not cooperating, and not allowing me to search for photos or videos. So Tony Reali can put that in his errors and omissions at the end of the show. Sorry gang for the incredibly bland looking post.

Slainte,
Gary
