The same day I posted about the Baker Family Fantasy Basketball League, my cousin Zach sent me a message right away, asking if he could join, and even sent his draft picks in. Now he had the advantage of not drafting Christmas Eve while full of 7ups and anticipation of Santa as distractions. But his disadvantage was that he got to pick only from players we didn't. So we'll call it a wash. Zach's team:John Wall
Tyreke Evans
Kyrie Irving
Klay Thompson
Luis Scola
Kris Humphries
Caron Butler
Andrei Kirilenko
Kendrick Perkins
Dajuan Blair
Not a bad looking team, and upping our ante to $125 winner-take-all. With the season young, and the most games any team had played heading into tonight being 3, I decided to just take a real quick look at how our teams are doing. Remember, the winner of the league is who has the most total points, rebounds and assists at the end of the season, and you can't replace injured players. You're stuck with who you draft, and that's that. So I looked at who has the most total points/rebounds/assists (PRA) as well as averages so far. It will be interesting at the end of the season to see who was consistent with the first few games, and who improved or declined.
If you want to look at the NBA's page for stats on PRA, here you go. For argument's sake, I rounded the averages. Here's a quick glance at our teams so far:
DAD
His most efficient player so far is Durant, averaging 42 PRA. He is followed by Ginobili, 33, and Spencer Hawes, 28. What's impressive there is that besides Zach's players, Hawes was the last guy drafted. Unfortunately for Dad, two of his players (Paul Pierce and Baron Davis) haven't played in a game yet. His least efficient player right now is Shane Battier, with only 2.3 PRA, the lowest of any guy we drafted who has played in a game. Dad has the only team with two guys averaging more than 30 PRA.
ME
My most efficient player is LeBron at 46 PRA, tied for the league lead with Kevin Love. My next most efficient guys are James Harden and Zach Randolph, both with 27. My least efficient is Omri Casspi, with 9 PRA. I have five guys averaging over 20 PRA.
BILL
Bill's most efficient player is Brandon Jennings, at 32, followed by Rose with 27 and Beasley with 26. Also in the 20's are Hansbrough 22 and Joe Johnson with 20, also giving him 5 above 20. His least efficient guy so far is Okur at 6.5.
JOE
Joe's best is Rondo with 37, followed by Chris Paul and Carl Landry (Carl Landry?) with 27 each. Joe had 3 other guys in their 20s (Garnett, Calderon and Turkoglu), giving him 6 of 10 guys above 20 PRA, most in our league. His least efficient guy is Kwame Brown, with an average of 9.
ZACH
Zach also had 5 guys above 20, but is the only one without a player above 30. His leaders are Luis Scola, 29, Kris Humphries, 28, and John Wall, 27. His least efficient is Klay Thompson with 6. However, while Dad has two guys who aren't playing due to injury, Zach has one playing because he isn't currently on an NBA roster, making it hard to accumulate stats. That guy is Andrei Kirilenko. I spent a few minutes looking for him in the stat list, before googling him and finding out that he is currently unsigned, making him and Gilbert Arenas the biggest unsigned guys. Also on the list is Nate Robinson.
So there's the quick look at averages, as far as total PRA, here are the standings:
ME- 508
JOE- 499
BILL- 391
DAD- 358
ZACH- 345
If you look at our average player (who has played so far), the list goes:
ME- 22 PRA
JOE- 21.4 PRA
ZACH- 19.9 PRA
BILL- 19.8 PRA
DAD- 19.75 PRA
Long story short, I am in first place, but my guys have also played the most games. If you look at averages, it's close. Until guys start getting injured anyway.
Like I said in the first entry, I am going to try and update on this maybe once a month. Until then, I am begrudgingly cheering for LeBron to put up big stats.

Here is an amazing NBA video that gave me chills. Watch the full two minutes if you like, or ever liked, the NBA.
